Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena will lead the line at the 2024 Doha Diamond League javelin event as the Indians start their 2024 season in Qatar. With just over two months to go for the Paris Olympics, this will be our first look at India’s two premier javelin throwers after their gold and silver winning exploits at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The event starts 7:42 pm local time on Friday, May 10, which is 10:12 pm IST. You can read more about the competition here in our detailed preview.

In what’s a packed schedule, Neeraj and Kishore will both be back in action at the Federation Cup in Odisha on May 15 – Neeraj’s first event in India since becoming Olympic champion. He will, though, want to start the season with a bang in Doha, just like he had last year where he opened the season in the Diamond League with a win (a throw of 88.67m throw, just 4 cm ahead of Jakub Vadlejch).

This year, he’ll be targeting the retention of his Olympic crown as well as a milestone that’s eluded him so far in his illustrious career: the 90m mark. “If it is to happen, I will try to make it happen before[Paris]. Things are going well, so maybe we don’t have to wait until the Olympics for me to go past the 90m mark,” he told the press earlier last month. Before adding an encouraging line about his main competitor: “[It’s funny because] since 2018 I’ve been stuck between 88-90m but going by the way Kishore [Jena] has improved, you guys keep asking me about crossing the 90m mark, who knows maybe he will cross it before I do.It will be great irrespective of whoever crosses it, but yes we Indians are at a good level and that mark is pending, but we will get past it soon.”
